Happy Holidays!

To all of my wonderful parents and beautiful students,

Thank you so much for such a fun filled, exciting and rewarding year together in Foundation. To my students, you made me the happiest teacher ever, I loved opening that door every morning to your bright and cheerful faces. Thank you for being such wonderful students, providing me with the best cuddles, hand picked flowers, kind cards, funny jokes, and sweet memories that I will always cherish. Go and show those Grade 1 teachers how wonderful you are, and make sure you remember your beautiful manners! I will ALWAYS remember you guys. Send me emails and updates of your lives, I love receiving them! I can’t wait to see you all famous on TV and be able to say “I taught him/her when they were in prep!” You are all such bright, strong, and kind children and I love you all dearly. Room 17 rule!

To my fantastic parents, you guys make teaching easy. Thank you for supporting me and trusting that I was doing my best. You never complained or doubted me and my abilities and for that I am truly thankful. Thank you also for the never ending supply of Tim Tams and daily smiles. You are wonderful people and these children are so lucky to have such caring and loving parents. You are all doing a tremendous job at raising your children and I have no doubt that they will grow up to be even more incredible than they are now.

Thank you for all of my gifts, you were too generous! I was absolutely spoilt!

I hope you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy this time as a family. Stay safe and give all of your beautiful children a cuddle from me.

Lots of love,

PS. I’ve already been booked for relief teaching for the first two days of term with the grade 6’s at HPS so I’ll see you all on your first day back! Come and find me on yard duty!

Chair Bags

I have now sent home all student books and belongings, including chair bags. Two chair bags have been left at school and they have no name. If your child has not returned with their blue chair bag, please let me know so that I can send one home with you. It would be a shame to lose these as you already paid for them! 🙂

Class Party- Tomorrow

Hi All,

Our end of year class party will be held tomorrow after Recess (11:10am). So far we have the following things:

If you are wanting to supply anything else, please let me know by commenting on this post. We do not yet have paper plates or serviettes so if you have not yet put your name down for anything, that would be very helpful!

Please label all containers. At the end of the day, anything not eaten will be sent home with your child to avoid waste.

Looking forward to a lovely day spent celebrating the wonderful year we have had together in room 17 🙂

Mr Jackson’s Movie Day

Hi all,
Just a reminder that Mr Jackson’s Movie Day is just around the corner (well nearly 2 weeks away) and we need this all paid for and organised ASAP. Week 9

Week 9

  • As we are in the lead up to Christmas, the class will start to complete some curriculum tasks with a christmas feel (ie, maths, writing, reading, craft etc). We will of course offer activities that are similar if students do not wish to complete these or do not celebrate Christmas. If you don’t want your child to take part in Christmas activities, please let me know and I’ll ensure they have similar activities available to complete
  • SWIMMING- Students will be participating in a special swimming session next week. All students MUST bring a tshirt and shorts to wear OVER their bathers for the next 2 weeks – it must be clothes you don’t mind getting wet. Please make sure you include a plastic bag to put these in to avoid getting everything wet!

We also have swimming twice this week. Tuesday 4th Dec 12pm AND Friday 7th 12pm

  • The students enjoyed a visit from our friendly Heidelberg Firefighters last Monday and they will be joining us again this Monday to let us use some of their equipment!
  • The Carols Night is fast approaching and is a wonderful way for the community to come together to celebrate the year. We extend a warm invitation to all our community to join us from 5:00 pm on Monday 3rd December. The Christmas concert will begin at 7pm. Make it a special night, bring a picnic rug or chairs and enjoy the entertainment. There will also be a sausage sizzle – please see below if you are able to volunteer to help:

Dear HPS Families,

We are holding a sausage sizzle on Carols night this Monday 3 December. We are in need of approximately 20 parents to volunteer up to one hour of their time beginning at 3.00 to set up, cook, sell and pack up.

Many hands make light work. A group of 20 people will ensure that we can wrap up the barbecue by 7pm in time to watch our children perform.

Email me your name, mobile phone number and preferred time slot if you can help by this Friday afternoon.

My email address is durando.danielle.d@edumail.vic.gov.au

Kind Regards

Danielle Durando

Welcome to Week 7!

‘oo’ as in ‘Look at the book, oo, oo, oo’

Birds turn ‘ir’, ‘ir’, ‘ir’

In reading we are learning to summarise the books that we read, making sure to include the beginning, middle, and end events. We will also be identifying the main events in stories including the plot, character, setting, problem/solution and theme.

In writing we are focussing on the who, where, and what of events and ensuring we are including these in our weekend and investigations recounts.

In reading we will continue to revise several reading strategies including sequencing main events and discussing the literacy elements of a text (plot, character, setting, problem, resolution and theme).

This week in Maths we will be practising the addition strategy ‘doubles’.  We will also be continuing to revise what we know about 2D and 3D shapes.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow 🙂

Week 6

Welcome to Week 6

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of my wonderful parents who generously offered their time at the Fete yesterday. Not only did the Face Painting stall run smoothly, so too did the entire Fete and that is a testament to all of your hard work. I saw lots of you helping at the food stalls, book stalls, garden stall and even up on stage performing your talents (Mr McCarthy and Mrs McGriskin you were incredible!!!). Belinda, you are a SUPERSTAR! What an effort putting on that entire day, you did an amazing job and should be so proud of yourself. Heidelberg is so extremely lucky to have such passionate and hardworking parents who care so much about the school. I loved the entire day and I couldn’t stop smiling with the beautiful community spirit that was shown. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙂

Our sound of the week is ‘Look at the Book ‘oo’, ‘oo’, ‘oo’’

AND  ‘Be a star, ‘ar’, ‘ar’, ‘ar’’

In reading we will be using punctuation (end marks, commas, etc.) to enhance phrasing and prosody (stresses on words, intonation etc) and in Grammar we will be learning all about Compound Words.

Our Foundation students are now making the change to become ‘Mini Grade 1 Students’. I won’t be calling them Foundation anymore- we are growing up and getting ready for our new adventure.

With this in mind, we are now writing on Grade 1 paper (dotted thirds). Our students are learning where they place their letters and what colour sections they are to use. If you wish to do this at home, i’ve placed a copy of the page below.

It would be great if you could encourage your child to write on these lines. It will both build their confidence, but also ready steer them in the right direction for next year

In maths this week we will be revising number and continuing with our assessment.  We will continue connecting Days of the Week to events and looking further at time, particularly o’clock times.

Have a beautiful week! WE CAN DO THIS!
